Counseling

I am a licensed professional counselor in the state of South Carolina. I have worked in group homes that consisted of abused and at-risk teens, domestic violence shelters with at-risk teen pregnancies and women and children seeking safety, and a child abuse and rape crisis center program. After my counseling experiences in these agencies, I opened my counseling private practice Trinity Counseling, LLC in Bluffton, SC in the fall of 2014. I am a certified Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapist and have 10+ years of experience working with anxiety, depression, ADD/ADHD, and anger management. I work with young children, adolescents, adult individuals, marriage and family. My primary focus is teen's and women's ministry and marriage and family. I love helping marriages come from stifling, hopeless places to understanding, caring and thriving again. When I work with children, I incorporate the parents to equip them with parenting support to better understand, communicate with, and help their child at home. I primarily incorporate Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Art Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and effective parenting tools in individual and family counseling sessions.

Mission

Just before Christ ascended back into Heaven he gave the great commission in Matthew 28:18-20. Jesus told the disciples, "Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

My mission is exactly this, to help others where they are at, whether sick, poor, hungry, or thirsting for freedom from a mental health illness - and in doing so, to spread the love of Jesus Christ.

Vision

I have a vision to inspire, equip and encourage women to gather together as sisters in Christ as we work to honor and respect our husbands, teach and love our children well, and to obey and draw near to God as his beloved daughters. I have a vision that the pain and fear we have carried for far too long will be cast into the sea as we step into the freedom that our heavenly Father has called us to step into. Let us no longer live according to the enemy's lies that we are not enough, that we don't add up to the Mom/wife/sister/friend next door, that we are filled with shame and doubt. No friends. Let us live as daughters of the King!

Worthy.

Loved.

Redeemed.

Treasured.

Valued.

Enough.

Without Blemish.

Children and Adolescents

Play Therapy and Art Therapy interventions are used with children to create a fun, safe environment for them to learn to express their feelings, develop self-confidence and work through presenting concerns.
As adults, we respond well to positive reinforcement. If your employer thanks you for your work, you work harder. If they only scold you for your mistakes, you lose the desire to give them your best efforts. Likewise, we need to catch our youth doing well, and speak life into their souls. They need guidance and wise direction, but we must be careful not to kill their spirits. Let us not crush them by our desire to help them succeed.

Self Care for the Individual

Counseling for individuals is geared towards the presenting problem - trauma, anxiety, depression, addiction, grief . . . and on it goes. Therapeutic interventions to create self-care, mindfulness, re-wiring false core beliefs, and learning to obtain peace beyond understanding in order to live a life that radiates positivity. Hope and healing are maintainable.
Matthew 21: 21-22 Jesus replied, "I tell you the truth, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and it will be done. If you believe you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer."

Marriage and Family

Therapy offers a safe place for child, teen and parents, along with dating, engaged or married couples to communicate in a safe environment that encourages listening with empathy, understanding the heart behind the words, and fostering a new, positive path to move forward. Skills are taught in managing conflict, and creating a bond of trust in the relationship to vulnerably share hurts and joys with one another.

Faith Based

Christ-Centered Professional Counseling

I operate from a Christ-centered belief that Jesus is the one and only Son of God, that He was born of the Virgin Mary, that he died on the cross to save us from our sins, that he rose to life on the third day, and that by believing in him and accepting his gift of salvation, he is the only way to the Father in Heaven. (John 3:16) I believe that the Bible is the inherent word of God and that He is our ultimate healer. I believe in and offer professional therapeutic techniques as tools to help individuals learn how to collect and process thoughts, gain new positive perspectives, obtain peace and calm to keep oneself grounded and centered, and to be able to carry out daily life with peace and joy amidst circumstances outside our control. I became a counselor because I believe we are not subject to our thoughts, nor our circumstances. I believe we have a choice in our thought life, in our circles of influence, in our self-care, and in our ability to live this life to the very fullest. Though pain and hardship hit us around every corner it may seem, we still have a choice to find our inner strength, to be over-comers, to live a life that radiates positivity, and choose to be a light in this world.
